World Soccer Weekly, a two hour radio show devoted exclusively to global soccer has signed a distribution deal with Sports Byline USA.
World Soccer Weekly, heard Sundays at 10 am, ET, is hosted by Steven Cohen and Nick Geber, both English ex-pats. They are now bringing their passion for global soccer to an international audience. Originally broadcast on KMPC 1540 AM in Los Angeles, this is the first soccer show ever to reach syndication in the United States and signals a clear shift in the popularity of the sport.
With MLS attendance up 6% this year and with the tremendous success of the US men's national team at this summer's World Cup, the timing could not be any better. "We are certainly encouraged by both of those facts, but also it is clear that America is really cultivating some world class talent and as a result the product on the field is getting better and the sport is more popular," said Steven Cohen CEO of Soccer Weekly, Inc., the production company that produces World Soccer Weekly.
"Additionally there is an appetite for a talk radio show dealing with
all the world's great soccer leagues - from England to Mexico, from Spain to
Argentina and right here in the US. We are very excited about this huge development,"
added Nick Geber, President of Soccer Weekly, Inc.
Sports Byline USA is America's #1 Sports Radio Network. Now in its 14th year,
Sports Byline USA has become the most popular sports radio network in the country.
It's heard on nearly 200 radio stations in the US. Additionally, Sports Byline
is heard internationally on 500 stations of the American Forces Network in 177
countries as well as in Canada and the Virgin Islands.
Sports Byline is the creation of show host Ron Barr. The idea came to Barr while
he was hosting a local San Francisco sports talk show called "Evening Sports
Magazine." One evening Barr was interviewing Duke Snider when a fan called
in and said, "Ron, I've waited 35 years to talk with Duke Snider, and tonight
you're giving me the chance." From that, Barr got the idea to launch a
national sports talk show that would give fans everywhere an opportunity to
talk with their sports heroes. Sports Byline is also a forum that allows listeners
across the country to express their opinions about what's happening in sports
and about major issues such as player strikes and gender equity. Sports Byline
USA has been called the "Nightline" of sports radio.
This syndication deal makes World Soccer Weekly the first soccer radio talk
show to gain a national audience through vehicles such as Sirius Satellite Radio,
where it will be heard on channel 123.
