San Francisco, CA – Legendary sports talk show host Ron Barr will take his Sports Byline USA radio show to Germany for shows on May 22nd and 23rd and to Afghanistan for shows on May 26th, 29th and 30th it was announced today. CBS Sports NFL commentator Randy Cross will join Barr on the trip. The trip abroad will be Barr’s 2nd trip in to a war zone to do his show. He was in Iraq last year.
Sports Byline USA with Ron Barr (www.sportsbyline.com) airs weeknights from 7pm – 10pm PDT time nationwide. Sports Byline USA has been called the "Nightline" of sports for its interesting, insightful and compelling presentation.
Barr’s guests during his stint in Germany and Afghanistan will include Oakland A’s pitcher Barry Zito, USC Head Foottball Coach Pete Carroll, Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Mike Holmgren, Former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo, legendary San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Bill Walsh, Hall of Fame quarterbacks Steve Young and Roger Staubach, NY Giants running back Tiki Barber, Florida Marlins pitcher Dontrelle Willis, San Jose Sharks MVP candidate Joe Thornton and ESPN broadcaster Chris Berman.
“This is my second time I’ve gone to a war zone to broadcast Sports Byline USA,” said Barr. “The trip to Iraq last year was truly a life enhancing experience. Having soldiers come up and thank me for bringing them a taste of home with our show on the American Forces Network was rewarding. I look forward to meeting our fine troops in Germany and Afghanistan.”
Barr suffered a broken rib and leg while broadcasting from Iraq in 2005. He called the scene around his broadcast location “dicey”.
Ron Barr’s career began at the Washington Post newspaper in Washington, D.C. Barr's career includes broadcasting NBA basketball, NFL football, Major League Baseball, professional tennis, numerous college sporting events as well as several other major sporting events. His sports reporting resume includes 30 Super Bowls and 5 Olympic Games
