VIDEO GAME REVIEW

NASCAR '08
Reviewed by Arthur Mansbach

This time around EA Sports made a big effort to improve their NASCAR series. NASCAR ’08 is another EA SPORTS franchise game that has exclusive rights to the sport. If you are a racing fan, NASCAR ‘08 is your only choice in terms of gaming, and EA does their best to make it a good one.

NASCAR ‘08 has added some new and exciting features to their 11th installment of the game. My personal favorite is the ability to save your game in the middle of races. If you decide you want to have 100 lap races, than it isn’t a big deal to race 25 laps, save the game, and come back to it the next day. Another new feature is the ability to race “ghost” cars. For example, when you are trying to qualify for your spot in the race, you will see the faded image of the car that is in the pole position traveling around the track. This allows you to see how it moved and it can also be used as a pacesetter.

Another great part of the NASCAR series is the number of race tracks that are available. In addition to the complete set of Nextel Cup series tracks, the game also has over 15 fantasy tracks to choose from. In addition to the Nextel Cup series, the game also features the Busch and Craftsman Truck series.

For gamers and NASCAR race fans, EA does an excellent job of simulating the race experience. This includes qualifying, pre-race preparations, on the track, and in the pits. NASCAR ‘08 can be fun to play alone, but is more fun when you play online, racing against 20 other user controlled cars. NASCAR ‘08 is worth the money and a “must have” in your collection.
