| For
those who still think that NASCAR is still only a sport enjoyed
by backwoods slack-jawed southerners not only do you need to check out
the chase of the cup ratings but I strongly suggest you also check out
NASCAR 06 Total Team Control from EA Sports. This game simulates just
how complex this sport really is, yet remains simple enough for the novices
to enjoy as well.
The big new feature in NASCAR 06 (as
the title suggests) is the total team control. As in the real sport,
you have partners that work with you to help you get a win by blocking,
bumping another driver, or assisting with taking someone’s line.
Team play is truly an underrated part of NASCAR and this game does a
good job of giving the game player an idea of the importance of this
aspect.

The other
positive form this game is the depth that it offers. You still get the
opportunity to run in four different series. Also, as with most EA Sports
games you can keep it as simple or as complex as you want. You can run
a season, go deep into career mode, or if you are not a hard-core wrench
head, you can simply enjoy the racing experience of your favorite tracks
in the race now mode.
Where there are some solid foundations for a great gaming
experience, there are also some flaws in NASCAR 06. To start, the graphics
just don’t measure up to the other 2006 EA releases. After experiencing
Madden and NCAA Football, NASCAR just pails in comparison. It almost
looks like a previous year’s release. The other problem I had
with the game was the super sensitive racing controls. This has been
a problem with the F1 series but not with NASCAR in the past. One little
mistake and you will find yourself in a wall or a total spinout.

| Whether
you are a novice to the sport and just enjoy driving games NASCAR 06 will
give you enough entertainment to keep you coming back. The hardcore fans
will appreciate this year’s effort as well. |
